Ferrari 312, 1/43 Brumm

Well, hello collectors, today a small chat about Brumm models and about their work under name Ferrari 312 from 1968 in 1/43 scale. First an introduction about the manufacturer Brumm, these are Italian models, by that I mean these models have sentence Made in Italy below them. This is Italian manufacturer from northern Italy, who wants to know a specific location could check it out on Wikipedia. The factory emerged from desire to create something like RIO models, and I think there is some family connection between those two, well what should be expected it is in Italy (This is a joke, not to be misunderstood). You are probably asking why I am not writing about a specific car, it’s because I don’t want to and because this was a car that wasn’t very successful.

Brumm is creating nice models and that has to be admitted. After all, Brumm is not a manufacturer from whom you could expect precision, perfect tiny details, correct coloring or well placed decals. According to me it is manufacturer which still produces objects with soul, and passion. I have to admit that every time I talk about something Italian these is a lot of words like soul, passion, grandeur, and so on. So all this words I would call during this text “X factor”. I am amused with rivets on their models. Those rivets are beautiful although in reality those parts would be to large, by this I mean if you scale Brumm’s  rivets to real size these would be five centimeters marge rivets. Also one great thing with this manufacturer is their ability to always make a model in proper size, which means that the scale is correct. This scale incorrectness is visible on some IXO models or on Mattel products, such as Hot Wheels Racing and Hot Wheels Elite. Problem is the most visible on IXO models Ferrari F92A, which is much bigger than PMA model of the same car. One of the things that drive me crazy is their inconsistency in model making by year, or accordingly by time. They make new model without some order, maybe first introducing some ’50 cars, then something from ’80, than ’60 and so on. While doing that they are missing some model which are in high demand but nowhere to be bought, like Ferrari 126C3 which is made only by IXO in middle class models, or 156 aero which is also made only by IXO. I will probably never understand why that is happening. Flaws that occur often on Brumm models are mistakes with paint and decals. In many cases this is very obvious, some details such as rims, numbers and interiors are often wrongly colored or modeled. My Ferrari 500 F2 from 1953 should be a car that was driven on GP Great Britain, on that model color of rims is wrong, and the exhaust pipe is missing. Also Ferrari D50 from 1956 from British GP has silver nose, instead of red like it should be. Ascari’s Ferrari 375 Indy from 1952 Indianapolis race has yellow nose instead of blue and so on. All to the side, the thing I like about Brumm models is that X factor, and I would not get rid of these models specially because of that.

This Ferrari 312 is not different from other Brumms. Body of the car near the driver is wrongly modeled, engine has some detailing that real car doesn’t have, nose are of a model is not shaped wright and mistakes like this are something that distract from nicely done parts. If you read the text and then see the photos you will see what I am talking about, and will have complete image of the model. This is one classic Brumm full of mistakes, and full of charm. There will be something similar in any time soon on the blog.
