Hribar-Otroci interview / Razgovor sa Hribar-Otroci

Danas imamo predah od Ferrari F1 modela, i sjajan razgovor sa Jožem Hribarom glavnim čovjekom „Hribar-Otroci“ kompanije. Zanimljiv razgovor uz dosta novih informacija vas očekuje u redovima ispod.
Today we have a short break from Ferrari F1 models, and an extraordinary interview with Jože Hribar, a man behind the “Hribar-Otroci” manufacturer. Interesting interview with a lot of new information, you will read in text below.Expect even more information on blog about this manufacturer.

143modell: Kako ste počeli i kad?

143modell: How did you start and when? From where came the idea for this, and do you see yourself as one of huge manufacturers?

Jože Hribar, Hribar-Otroci:
Hribar-Otroci is actively producing miniatures from 1991. And for now we sold around 10 million different models on the market of Former Yugoslavia, and those models where of different brands. Probably 90% of that was models from last large manufacturer of Europe, Bburago from Italy. But Bburago “went in China” and then we changed our “course”, and now we are manufacturing almost 99% of models we sell, under our own brand.
The range of manufacturers and the offer of the models are (too) big, and prices went down big time, but the quality did not follow that, and once you had the situation, that models are really good for really small amount of money. Besides that, production of small numbers of miniatures is now doable, and easily doable, so the competition is huge. Especially in China, but the prices of white metal and prices of manual labour are increasing in China, so maybe there will be a place for us in some time. According to that we will probably never be so huge, but we hope that we are huge in hearths of collectors of Yugoslavia.

143modell: What models do you produce, and what we could expect that you will produce in the future?

Jože Hribar, Hribar-Otroci:
We will stay at 1/43 that is for sure, we have some blueprints for Yugo, and in plans for producing are bicycles Krpan, motorbikes Tmos, than Zastava 101, 1300... And depending demands maybe trucks form TAM and FAP. Our wish is to make all the production that was built in Yugoslavia.

143modell: Can you say us something about your company, where you are situated, who are your partners and so on...?

Jože Hribar, Hribar-Otroci:
We are active for 24 years, we had some difficulties and we had to stop for a while, but now we are better than ever and we are continuing to work. You can find us in Kranj in Slovenia. And as I told you we will be focuses on 1/43.
We also have some other direction of producing darts, balls and so on, and of course die-cast models.
143modell: For some time you were not present on the market, what was happening?

Jože Hribar, Hribar-Otroci:
Well nothing special, according to the conditions of the market we went bust and in 2005 we had to stop for a little while. And for me in my private life I had a divorce and so on... But all that I see as a new experience that thought me a lot and now my daughter has stepped in and she is in the driving seat of the company.

143modell: What is your opinion on magazine models that are present now in the Yugoslavia area?

Jože Hribar, Hribar-Otroci:
I am familiar with that also, for us it is a nice promotion, especially because people are now getting to know die-cast world and starting to collect more than ever, so the collecting good models is still coming. These magazine models came from Europe and these models got in the places where we were before. I see these as motivation, and something that will push me into bigger things. We will still be working on our new projects, with licences and completely legal, but our competition is finding a way to sometimes avoid this stuff, and sometimes those licences are questionable.

143modell: You mentioned me that you cooperated with Brumm, what was the deal about that, and how it ended? Now you are working with Hongwell that is going well?

Jože Hribar, Hribar-Otroci:
Cooperation with Brumm started on 30th anniversary of Avto magazine and we did our version with help of Brumm, and their tools. Brumm is great Italian manufacturer, and one of rare in the world that survived „Made in China strike“. I highly appreciate Brumm and their work, but in our market those first models made with Brumm were too expensive for our buyers at 20 Euros per piece. So now, we are working with Hongwell and they manage to make decent models for really low price, but even Hongwell has problems with competing with others.

143modell: What do you think about resin models, and can we expect something like that from Hribar-Otroci?

Jože Hribar, Hribar-Otroci:
It is interesting that we started acutely this year with one of the kind models of Cabriolet (open top) Fića’s (Zastava 750). Upper part is made of resin and bottom is our standard model of Fića. First of those models, were purchased from collectors who are not form Yugoslav area. So resin is not something strange to us, and the world of die-cast models is huge. All in all resin models are not something new, only the buyers are not that numerous and the prices of resins are high.

143modell: Is it real to expect TAM and FAP models from Hribar-Otroci, in recent future?

Jože Hribar, Hribar-Otroci:
Already told you, it depends on the demand, if there is any we would be more than glad to produce these models.

143modell: Can we expect some models like this Floyd’s Fića?

Jože Hribar, Hribar-Otroci:
Floyd is only one of many that will come in near future. We have blueprints for at least 40 to 50 different versions, like Automotosavez of Yugoslavia (with different versions depending on republics) Firefighters, Police, Red Cross and so on. We will work also on some promotional versions of fića, but you will see.

143modell: Is there something that we missed to ask, and you would like to tell us?

Jože Hribar, Hribar-Otroci:
There is a lot of different small plans and stuff to do and to work on. But some huge plans are out of the picture for now. After 25 years in this business, I think that new era for a miniature is coming, and especially in Yugoslav area. People are now much more interested in scale models and many of these European editors are doing some good job introducing models again as promotional device and in marketing in general. Even in schools and in training models can be used, so there is a lot of place for love and business with models.
I will be better to ask those questions in area of collectors and buyers... We want creative cooperation with everyone, as an example every car mechanic could order 50-100 pieces for their shop to act as promotional pieces and to be their own limited series. If you have enough of those shops you could have made a lot of different Fićas.
We also can make any water-slide decal with instructions so you can customize your model of Fića, and every collector could have some of these, and they can contact me or you for that. There will be a plenty of time for fairs, markets and so on in die-cast world. And I am very happy for that because my work is also very important in this that is happening on die-cast area in Yugoslavia. Everyone is welcome with ideas and with cooperation.

143modell: Thank you for answers, and hope to read from you soon again!
