In a few days all teams from Formula One will show us
cars for season 2014 and with these already shown we can say that radical
design is something that will be present this year. So today one Formula One
car that had radical design way back, in the seventies. This is Brabham BT46
from 1978, which was driven by Niki Lauda in GP Sweden, which this car won with
one-two victory. After the race the car was banned because of the design that
wasn’t according to rules. This what we have here is RBA model in 1/43 scale,
and today post will be about it, but first little bit about the real car.

nekoliko dana svi F1 timovi će predstaviti svoje nove aute za sezonu 2014, i iz
već pokazanih auta vidimo da će radikalan dizajn biti posebno prisutan ove
godine. Mnogi timovi pokazuju na različite načine kako se nose sa novim
pravilima. Danas na tapetu jedan model koji je pokazao jedan radikalan pristup
još 1978. godine. Radi se o Brabamu koji je vozio Niki Lauda na Velikoj Nagradi
Švedske i te godine pobijedio. Pobjeda je bila dupla jer je njegov tadašnji
timski kolega Votson bio na drugom mjestu. Model o kome će biti riječi je RBA
model u razmjeri 1/43, ali prvo malo o autu.

The story behind this car is interesting, some say that
after the race was banned, some say that Ecclestone withdraw it. I don’t believe
in these legends about some great men who are willing to give up on title just
because of the safety, so we will stick to the banned story. Car was designed
by Gordon Murray and in the era of ground effect this car had to make some changes
to be in the race for the championship. Because of the wide V12 Alfa Romeo
engine the ground effect could not be done completely, so Murray came with idea
of fan car. The fan was, as claimed by team, made for cooling the engine. Of
course everybody knew what the fan was really for. It created the vacuum
beneath the car, by sucking all the air. This car was so fast on the track that
weekend in Sweden that, also as the legend says, Lauda and his team mate Watson
drove much slowly hoping for other teams not to see the potential in this car.
I think that this legend is possible, and if you are making the list of most
interesting cars of F1 that won a GP this one will be on that list for sure.
Prvo
kratko objašnjenje što je graundefekt, to je u suštini pravljenje tunela na
podu auta koji stvaraju vakum, pa vam više spojleri nisu potrebni. Ovo znači da
imate mnogo manji otpor vazduha i da su auti mnogo brži, zapravo što su brži to
su više prilijepljeni za podlogu. Ukratko to je gaundefekt. Priča iza ovog auta
je poprilično zanimljiva, neki kažu da je auto nakon trke zabranjen, neki da je
povučen od strane tvoraca. Ja lično, ne vjerujem u te legende o nekim ljudima
koji su se dogovorili da odustanu od titule svjetskog šampiona da bi spasili
živote, a to se sve dešavalo u graundefekt eri. Ali da ne nagađamo, auto j e
zabranjen i pravila su prilagođena, pa se upotreba ventilatora više ne može
smatrati legalnom. Kreatori ovom auta su bili Gordon Marej i Berni Eklstone
(danas šef Formule Jedan). Ovaj ventilator po kome je ovaj auto poznat je
postavljen, kako je tim tada tvrdio, za hlađenje motora. Naravno svima je bilo
jasno čemu ogromni ventilator iza motora služi, pa da bi izvlačio sav vazduh
ispod bolida i stvarao vakum. Cijela problematika oko ovog auta je u tome što
je tada počinjala era graundefekta a mnogi timovi nisu bili spremni motorima za
tu promjenu, tako je Brabamov auto imao široki V12 motor od Alfa Romea koji
nije dozvoljavao da se u potpunosti iskoriste prednosti graundefekta.
Postavljanjem ventilatora koji je auto zalijepio za podlogu, auto postaje jako
brz. Toliko je bio brz da, opet legenda kaže, Lauda i Votson su vozili sporije
ne bi li ostali timovi pomislili da auto nije toliko strašan, u nadi da
zaobilaženje pravila sa postavljem ventilatora će proći među sudijama. Na
žalost, ili na sreću Lotusa, nije prošlo, auto je zabranjen ali je ušao u
legendu.

Now about the model. The actual model is not that
interesting as the real car is but, it has a few good sides. First it is a
model that is rare, it is made only by Minichamps and by True Scale Miniatures,
but the limitations on these two are very high so if you want something that
you can afford this RBA is a model to have. RBA are series of models issued in
Great Britain with magazine so it is one of magazine models. Sure it is better
than other magazine models, but still for the price of 25 Euros, around 25 Euros,
I would expect more. A model is very interesting and if someone is looking at
your F1 collection, it is very possible to have an eye on this one. But when
you look at it as just a model, without any limitations, iconic car and fan car
moments, you will see that it is not made with a lot of effort. Firstly antenna
is turned wrong way, and if you don’t want to break it you can’t turn it other
way. The wings on a car are too thick and that feeling that this was a fast car
is lost because of that. Especially what is bothering me is the front axle that
doesn’t exist on a real car but it is there on a model, and it is again very
thick. The wheel suspension parts are also thick, so a model looks like it has
a few thousand kilograms which is not good. On the other side, a model i nicely
painted, the details are there, the sealing part on the bottom of the car is
visible from the sides and is painted green which is great. Interior is badly
done but it is fine for a magazine model. After all this is a fine model that
you should own if you like Formula One cars, but if you don’t, or if you have
money for PMA or TSM model, you should buy them, or something different.
Sad
malo o modelu, koji nije toliko zanimljiv koliko i auto ali jeste sa strane što
je rijedak. Rijedak model zato što ga pored RBA pravi samo još Minicahmps i TSM
(True Scale Miniatures). Model po meni ima dosta mana koje su vrlo vidljive.
Jeste da se radi o novinskom modelu ali ipak za nekih 25 Eura koliko košta ako
ga uopšte i ima u prodaji je lošije urađen, u suštini ja sam očekivao više od
ovog modela. Ima na njemu dosta djelova koji su debeli ili su deblji nego što
bi trebalo da budu. Posebno se tu ističi prednji i zadnji spojler koji su jako
debeli i kod kojih bi trebalo da materijal bude drugi. Metalni prednji spojler,
iako nekad može da bude dobar, u ovo slučaju nije i dosta je deblji nego na
autu. Isti problem imaju i djelovi ogibljenja na prednjim točkovima koji su plastični
ali opet debeli, tj. mnogo deblji. Sledeća stvar koja mi se ne sviđa je osovina
na prednjim točkovima koja se vidi i po meni mnogo smeta na modelu F1 kad
postoji. U ovom slučaju pogotovo, jer je model sa svim svojim djelovima ostavio
utisak o autu koji je netačan. Auto je po ovom modelu bio trom i debeo, i
nikako brz, dok je u realnosti priča potpuno drugačija. Strelasti oblik auta je
izgubljen zbog svih ovih djlova koji nisu dobro napravljeni.Poslednja mana je
to što je antenica pogrešno okrenuta, i ukoliko ne želite da je slomite nećete
moći da je okrenete i vratite u pravi položaj. Mislim da su i retrovizori
takođe pogrešno okrenuti ali nema veze za tako sitan detalj. Pohvalno je to što
je model lijepo ofarban, što je donji dio modela dobar, posebno traka za
zatvaranje poda bolida je vidljiva i ofarbana u zeleno, enterijer nije loše
modelovan i gume su fine. Na žalost ti plastični djelovi mu ne dozvoljavaju da
se primakne ovim PMA i TSM modelima.
